Alf & Margaret MORRIS

Both Alf & Margaret were born and have lived in the Bendigo area all their lives.

Alf has had a life long interest in antiques and collectables with a particular interest in stamps, porcelain, Royal Worcester, and art.  Now in retirement, Alf is able to use his expertise to source unique and rare specimens.

Background

Alf won a VICTORIAN OVERSEAS FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP in 1965, which was presented by the then Governor of Victoria, Sir Rohan Delecombe, and consequently spent two years in England with his wife Margaret and their two small boys, working in Engineering in the Motor Industry.

On return to Australia in 1968 Alf started a business and Specialised in Automatic transmissions. As this business grew the opportunities presented themselves to become franchise dealers for Daihatsu, Hino trucks, Saab-Scania and International farm equipment and trucks.

At the time of selling this business known as ALF MORRIS MOTORS P/L there were 32 people on the staff.

In 1991 a new business selling second-hand cars began at his eldest son’s garage premises in Bendigo, which is currently being operated as NEALE STREET CAR SALES. When commissioned Alf as a ‘broker’ locates cars and sells them to his clientele as a Licensed Motor Car Trader.

From age 6 Alf was given an incentive by his Mother to meet her at the ‘bus stop’, the prize being a packet of stamps.

At this early age collecting became a real ‘bug’ and his stamp collecting has been ongoing together with coins and banknotes.

At the time of marriage in 1961 Margaret & Alf began decorating their new home with good Art, Porcelain and Glass items, Furniture, Lamps & Lighting, which whilst decorating their home became treasures to admire and appreciate.

The allure of collecting has taken them to many countries in the World and to many recognised Antique Auctions.

Without doubt the "MORRIS COLLECTION" has and still does include many fine and superb items and not withstanding, an incredible collection of Victorian gas, pre-kerosene and kerosene Lamps & Lighting. It is Alf’s desire to complete a book on this subject, which will illustrate examples of lighting from many countries in the World with images and detail in colour.

This amazing ‘COLLECTION" will be offered to all interested collectors and buyers from around the world, and it must be emphasised that this web-site www.alfsantiques.com.au will continue to grow and expand as more of the MORRIS COLLECTION becomes available for sale.
